Over the last couple years I’ve been occasionally experimenting shooting aerials with a Tilt-shift lens. The purpose has been to play with the depth of field (selective focus or blurred areas)which is often disregarded in aerial photography due to the distance between the camera and subject making it very difficult to achieve with normal lenses. Shooting the Brothers on the Run – part 2
In my last post – see it here – I told a story about a Alaskan surfing photoshoot with the ‘Brothers on the Run’ crew. I left off halfway through the day just before heading to the beach to shoot from a different angle. Below are a few select images.

Shooting the Brothers on the Run
I had an incredible spring filled with surf trips around the wild coastline of Alaska. One such trip involved a renegade group of snowboarders and a pro surfer. The Brothers on the Run is a webisode series sponsored by redbull and youtube:
“BOTR” documents the trip of a lifetime: Alaska to southern Chile, by rig, on the longest navigable road in the world — 15,000 miles minimum. They started in Anchorage on April 1 and expect to reach Chile by August, shooting and shredding the whole way down. The series will feature cameos by other pros, bros and guides.
– ESPN interview with Eric JacksonIn mid April the brothers and their crew, which at the time included Maui surfer Ian Walsh and snowboarder Travis Rice, joined us for an Alaskan surf adventure aboard the m/v Milo.

fun working
Living the dream back here in Alaska combining two of my passions – surfing the wilds of Alaska and photographing surfing (especially in the wilds of Alaska).
I’ve been enjoying back to back surf trips on the m/v Milo with a bunch of great folks joining us. We are motoring out of Resurrection Bay as I type for another week of exploring surf on the Alaskan coast. For this trip we’re joined by surfers from Nova Scotia, Hawaii, and California. When we aren’t surfing there is plenty of photo editing to catch up on!

Helisurfing Alaska
Helisurfing. There’s a word I’ve been thinking about for a while. Just sounds nice. Finally had a chance to do more than just think about it yesterday. Thanks to Jeff Hoke and the Chugach Powder Guides for making this come together. Laying in bed catching up on some sleep from our recent travels down under, Jeff called and said we might have a chance for a helisurf trip. I had been watching the swell and knew this would be good opportunity to live the dream so the scramble began. Two of hours getting boards, wetsuits, booties, mittens etc. together for everyone stuffing everything in the Suby and I was off on the 3.5hr drive over to Seward.
